Original Painting Now Available in my Etsy Shop! : [link]

This was my first graded project in my watercolor class. We were supposed to derive our inspiration from flowers, and the painting could be as abstract as merely using a color or shape from a flower, or as realistic as a photo if we so desired. The professor was really wanting something more abstract and loose, however, so I chose for my inspiration, the shape of the pistils of a flower, as well as the sort of ripple edge of a specific flower that I had found a photograph of online. I also took the pinky yellow colors from this flower.

The photo of this washed the colors out, so I tweaked them a bit in photoshop to match the original painting. They're accurate now. The paint is done in watercolor, and it took several hours of layering and waiting for it to dry, then layering again. I'm beginning to see how long these paintings can take! I am LOVING this medium though. You can get some really great effects and lovely blendy colors.

I think you've already really got the idea of watercolor down. It's abstract but still maintains enough direction.. er, I'm probably babbling.. but it looks great : D There's a nice mix of flowy color and sharp outline ^^;
